Current information

Introduction/specifics

The Wagnerstraße 51/1 daycare center cares for up to 39 children ranging in age from one year old until they start school. Care is provided in mixed-age groups, which means that infants and children over three years old are cared for in the same rooms. At the Wagnerstraße 51/1 daycare center, children are supported through an open-concept approach and according to the infans Early Childhood Education Action Plan. The infans Early Childhood Education Action Plan is implemented in various themed rooms. The children pursue their interests and gain their own experiences in these themed rooms. These include, for example, an art studio, a building area, a reading room, a role-play area, the kitchen, and the garden.

Rooms

At our daycare center at Wagnerstraße 51/1, children are supported in their development in themed rooms. Children can explore the following themed rooms:

  • In the art studio, children can express themselves artistically and learn about different painting materials and techniques.
  • In the construction area, children can learn about statics, for example.
  • In the reading room and writing workshop, children can become more familiar with writing and language and discover a wide variety of books.
  • In the role-play area, children can slip into different roles and playfully imitate different situations.
  • In the sensory room/sleeping room, children can relax and enjoy a variety of sensory experiences through sensory materials.
  • Children are served breakfast and lunch in the dining area.
  • In the garden, children can develop their motor skills by trying out the climbing frame or riding the vehicles, for example.

Outdoor Facilities

The outdoor area of the daycare center is located in the courtyard of the surrounding buildings of the “Postdörfle” and is fully fenced in. Here, the children can play soccer, ride vehicles, play on the lawn, climb and slide, and play in the sandbox. The willow bushes at the back of the garden offer the children a place to retreat.

The trees provide natural shade for the children, which is supplemented by parasols and the sun sail above the sandpit.

Food

Our current food supplier is Gasthaus Lamm in Blaubeuren/Asch. The food is delivered to us pre-cooked and is finished off by our kitchen staff. This ensures that many important nutrients are retained and are not lost through prolonged heating.

We also offer a generous breakfast buffet for the children.

Meals at our daycare center for children are served in an open setting. The children can decide when they want to eat during the meal times. The times when meals are offered to the children are anchored in the daily routine.

Basics

The foundations of educational work in municipal daycare facilities for children are:

- The infans action plan for early childhood education

- The orientation plan for education and upbringing for kindergartens in Baden-Württemberg

“Children are born incredibly different and their questions and interests cover an enormous range, which is why there must be individualized educational programs,” quotes Wolf Singer, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research. It follows that sustainable educational concepts must open up each child's own path to learning.

The city of Ulm is responding to these demands and has therefore introduced the infans action concept for early childhood education in its daycare facilities. The concept was developed by the infans Institute for Applied Socialization Research/Early Childhood e. V. Berlin.

Modules of the concept:

Educational professionals observe and reflect on what is important to each individual child and what topics are currently occupying the child. The observations are documented in the child's portfolio. From this, the educational professionals develop individual challenges for each child according to their educational interests and topics. This supports the child in their learning process.

The observations and educational goals form the basis of the pedagogical work.

Detailed information can be found at www.infans.de.

Based on the infans action concept for early childhood education, the orientation plan is implemented at a high professional level. In the open-structured room concept, the children have access to the entire building with all its stimulating functional rooms and educational islands. Open access to all rooms allows children to focus on their own topics and interests.

This provides children with an optimal learning environment in which they can experience community and develop a joy of learning.

Although the educational principles are the same in all facilities, each facility has its own profile.

Teamwork with school

Our partner school is Albrecht-Berblinger Elementary School. The respective partner teacher comes to our daycare center for children to carry out activities with the children during the partnership meetings. This allows the children to gain an insight into school and get to know the teacher. It also allows the teacher to get to know the children.

Teamwork with parents

Cooperation with parents is particularly important in order to jointly support the children's development. Parents are an important part of the development partnership and are involved and informed about their child's development through regular informal conversations and regular development meetings.

Furthermore, parents are informed about upcoming events at annual parent-teacher conferences and are actively involved in various celebrations (e.g., lantern festival) or activities (e.g., reading day).

Parents can also actively participate in everyday activities by forming a parents' council, which acts as a link between parents and the daycare center. Regular meetings are held with the parents' council to discuss various issues, such as problems, requests, and organizational matters.

Specifics

We currently take the children to the gym at Elly-Heuss-Realschule once a week. Stations are set up here where the children can develop their motor skills. We currently employ a specialist in physical education at our daycare center.
