Rooms

Our full-day childcare center is a single-group facility. It features an entrance area that houses the coatroom, which includes information boards for parents. These boards are used to share information from the daycare center and the parent advisory board.

When you enter our facility, you’ll arrive at the first learning area. This is where our movement corridor is located. There, children have the opportunity to learn new ways of moving, develop a positive body image, and take on different roles. In the building room, children gain their first experiences with statics, learn the laws of physics, and make logical connections—such as taking things apart, putting them together, or comparing them—and relating objects to one another, thereby developing planning skills. They gain experience with spatial design and thus develop a sense of spatial orientation.

In the garden right next door, children can fully explore their physical abilities on the climbing frame. They develop a sense of their own limits and those of others. They satisfy their need for physical activity or play in the large sandbox, learning about nature firsthand. Here, they develop their motor skills and senses. This gathering place allows them to practice social interactions and gain new experiences.

Food

We get our lunch from a local caterer.

The children are divided into two lunch groups. The children serve themselves from bowls placed on the tables. This helps them learn, over time, to gauge their hunger and estimate portion sizes.

We make sure to provide a healthy and balanced diet. Thanks to funding and subsidies from the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs as part of the EU School Program, we receive organically grown fruits and vegetables as well as certified organic cow’s milk once a week. On special days such as Easter or Christmas, parents are welcome to provide a communal breakfast buffet with homemade dishes for the preschool children.

Choosing the right beverages is an important part of a healthy diet. We offer water and unsweetened teas.

In our daily routine, we make sure to involve the children in the process of meal preparation through activities such as baking, making their own granola, or preparing smoothies. Furthermore, the children have the opportunity to help select the lunch menu for the coming weeks from the caterer’s menu. This allows the children to discuss balanced nutrition and its importance for maintaining a healthy body with one another and with the staff.

The garden team tends to two raised beds in our garden, which were sponsored by the EDEKA Foundation. The vegetables and herbs grown there are used, among other things, for breakfast

Cooperations

The partnership includes joint activities such as

Specifics

Our Focus Areas:

Together with the elementary school, we form the “Bildungshaus Ulmer Spatz for children ages 3 to 10.”

Through various daily activities, we learn with and from one another.

The goal of this approach is to create a close integration between the daycare center and the elementary school that goes beyond traditional cooperation. The focus is on shared responsibility for a continuous educational journey for the children.

This is based on the creation of mixed-age activities in which children from the daycare center and the elementary school play and learn together.

In practice, this means:

Regular, joint educational activities and projects take place for the daycare children and elementary school students. For example, we have joint seasonal kick-off events that all “Ulmer Spatzen” plan and celebrate together.

In addition, there are children’s conferences,

the Bildungshaus choir, and a gardening club that tends to raised beds together. Last but not least, the older children participate in “free work” sessions. Here, they get a taste of everyday school life and lessons, allowing them to take their first steps toward school.

The facilities of both centers are used by mutual agreement. Every two years, a large, joint Bildungshaus festival is organized.

At the staff level, regular professional exchanges about the Bildungshaus’s work take place during team meetings with teachers and educators.
