Basics
The foundations of educational work in unicipal day care centers for children are:
- The infans action concept of early childhood education
- The orientation plan for education and upbringing for daycare facilities in Baden Würrtemberg
"Children are born incredibly differently and span an enormous range with their questions and interests, which is why there must be individualized educational programs," says Wolf Singer, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Brain Research. From this, it follows that sustainable educational concepts must open up their own path of learning for each child.
The city of Ulm meets these requirements and has therefor introduced the infans action concept of early education in its day care centers. The concept was developed by the infans Institute for Applied Socialization Research/Early Childhood in Berlin.
Module of the Concept:
Educational professionals observe and reflect on what is important for each individual child and which topics are currently engaging the child. These observations are documented in the child`s portfolio. From this, the educational professionals develop individual challenges for each child according to their educational interests and topics. This way, the child is supported in the learningprocess. Educational goals are developed by the Team of the day care center and integrated into pedagogical practice. The educational goals encompass the topics of cultural diversity as well as the core elements from the goal of the provider, parents and professionals.
Observations and educational goals from the basis of pedagogical work.

On the basis of the infans action concept in early education, the orientation plan is implemented at a high professional level. In the open-structured room concept the children have access to the house with all its stimulatingly designed functional rooms and educational islands. Through open access to all rooms, the children can engage specifically with their topics and interests. This provides the children with an optimal learning environment where they can experience community and develop a joy of learning.
Although the educational principles are the same in all facilities, each one has its own profile.
